Joshua Lam is an Architect, Lecturer (PT) in the School of Architecture, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Place-making Director of the Hong Kong Public Space Initiative (HKPSI), a S.88 registered charity based in Hong Kong promoting sociability and liveability of the urban environment. As a practicing Architect, he has been working on high-rise, mixed-use and office campus development across Asia and the US, from China to Japan, India to Saudi Arabia. He was selected as the winner of the distinguished HKIA Young Architect Award in May 2022.
In the capacity of academia and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), he has been investigating urban situations improvised by people, proactive conservation of rural settlement and anthropogenic nature. Since 2023, Joshua has co-taught Master of Architecture Design Studio on regenerative design focusing on rural settlement in Hong Kong. He has led HKPSI’s Place-making team investigating tactical urbanism intervention and research (Play-making for Place-making), leading commission of public art curation with the Art Promotion Office (APO) (Sound of Happy Valley) and District Council, as well as leading HKPSI’s involvement in various events of Hong Kong Architecture Centre (HKAC) Play-to-Reveal, UABB (Shenzhen Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture) and Inter-island Festival.
