Ms. KO, Rina

Introduction

Rina Ko is qualified as a Certified Public Accountant in the United Kingdom in 2006 before she pursues her lifelong career as an Architect. She is now a Registered Architect and has a professional interest in the well-being of older people. She has joined the CUHK Jockey Club Institute of Ageing as a Research Architect since 2018. Her current research explores how urban and architectural intent could have spiral effects on the physical and cognitive health of the elderly, from daily encounters to societal implications. She trusts her cross-disciplinary experience is a valuable strength for initiating and executing meaningful research projects.

Before joining CUHK, she practiced as a Junior Architect in Herzog & de Meuron (HdM) for two public cultural projects, Tai Kwun and M+ Museum, in Hong Kong. HdM's commitment to articulation through contextual materiality for their projects enables Rina to further excel in her design research knowledge on cultural values and user experiences.

Rina Ko is an alumnus of CUHK School of Architecture. During her studies at CUHK, she received the “Best Design Award” both in 2013 and 2014 in her MArch degree. Outside Hong Kong, her two projects were nominated by the school and got shortlisted by the RIBA Presidents Medals Student Awards (Silver Medal) by the Royal Institute of British Architects in the United Kingdom. In Hong Kong, she was awarded the “Student Medal of the Year 2014” by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA), for her best overall academic performance, including design achievements and innovations.
