Introduction

Jeroen van Ameijde is Assistant Professor and Director of the MSc. in Urban Design (MSUD) Programme at the School of Architecture, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), teaching and conducting research in architecture, urban analytics and urban design. He has a background in architecture and urban planning practice, with expertise in the design and development of large-scale housing and master planning projects.

Jeroen’s research focuses on the interaction between urban design, human activities and quality of life in high-density urban environments. Using computational and data-driven workflows, his work explores how public space perception, co-presence and social interaction patterns in public spaces are important factors in the development of supportive neighbourhoods and housing communities.

Jeroen has published and lectured internationally and has coordinated workshops in collaboration with numerous universities. He is a chartered member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design (HKIUD), and an executive team member with the International Forum on Urbanism (IFoU) and The Association for Computer-Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia (CAADRIA).
