The lecture brings together Edman Choy (MArch 2001) of Herzog & de Meuron and Elva Tang (BSSc 1998) of Henning Larsen. Both offices are headquartered abroad, in Basel and Copenhagen, respectively, and renowned for their strong ethos and design culture. This conversation between Edman and Elva will highlight their years of experience and challenges in maintaining the unique voices of their respective practices within Hong Kong and Asia’s specific building culture.


Edman Choystarted at Herzog & de Meuron in Basel as a Project Architect in 2003 and became an Associate in 2009. He coordinated the setup of the firm’s Hong Kong office in 2014 and has since managed its daily operations. Edman has been involved in many H&deM projects in Asia, including the Tree Village Campus Master Plan and TPT Tower in Beijing, Kolkata Museum of Modern Art, and most recently, Tai Kwun and M+ Museum of the West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong.


Elva Tangis a Founding Partner of Henning Larsen’s Hong Kong office. She has been leading the company’s activities in Asia since 2008, in charge of key projects such as the Hangzhou East Lake Opera, French International School Hong Kong, and the Icone Tower in Manila. With her multi-cultural exposure in New York, Copenhagen, Paris, Hong Kong and China, Elva develops vibrant, sustainable architecture with a Scandinavian ethos in the Asian context.
