Throughout the last 25 years, b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos has been behind some of the most important architectural projects in Spain, many of which had urban public space in their core. It is not possible to control or predict how the complex user that is the “public” will react to these new interventions in the urban fabric, but as architects we can create conditions in order for the public life to develop. By analysing the idea and way of thinking behind four of b720’s past and future public projects, architecture can be seen as a generator, a tool to create the optimum circumstances for the multifaceted and diverse public life to flourish.

Fermín Vázquez is an architect since 1988. He studied at ETSAM and ETSAB. He has directed b720 Arquitectos https://b720.com/ since its foundation in 1997, jointly with Ana Bassat. He is behind some of the most emblematic projects built in Spain in the last twenty-five years. His work has received international awards and been the subject of publications and exhibitions. He has been the trusted local partner for some of the world’s leading architects, such as David Chipperfield and Jean Nouvel. He combines his professional practice with teaching. He currently teaches at the IE University in Madrid. He regularly publishes articles in international architectural journals and publications.
