Lecture Series Online 01

Date 3.10.2023 - 28.3.2023

Time Evening

Location G/F Atrium, LSK Architecture Building, CUHK

In the last two decades many new museums and exhibition centers have been completed in mainland China and Hong Kong. Their construction offers opportunities for young architecture practices to develop and implement new design ideas. Furthermore, international exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale, with their fast turn-over from first ideas to implementation, provide crucial arenas for architectural experimentation. Not merely places for exhibitions, they are drivers for urban change. While architectural design is a central part of exhibition making, it is itself difficult to exhibit. There is no single coup d'œil or cut of the eye that allows us to know a building in one go. Drawings, models, films, and VR present themselves as supplements, but not substitutes for the building itself. To explore the extraordinary range of creative architecture that exhibitions make possible, this lecture series presents thoughts and ideas by architects, curators, and historians.
