Computational urban design is an exploration on how to make the city a better place by using digital technology. With the help of new urban data and computational algorithms generated from new urban science, Dr. Ye is seeking to introducing new digital technology into the previously qualitative and intuition-based fields of urban design. This new research field contains three research directions, i.e., data-informed urban design, evidence-based urban design, and algorithm-driven urban design.

Dr.YE is an Associate Professor at Tongji University, where he directs the Computational Urban Design Lab. Dr. Ye earned his MSC in TU Delft, Netherlands and PhD from the University of Hong Kong. After that, he has worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Future Cities Lab, ETH Zurich. Dr.Ye’s research focuses on quantitative urban morphology and computational urban design by integrating new urban science with traditional disciplines.

The new lecture course “Environmental Design for Liveable and Healthy Cities” is open to all CUHK students and staff – you may join in person at CYT 203 (am sessions) or Lee Shau Kee Architecture Building Zone F (pm sessions) or via Zoom.
