Advanced Building Systems I: Technical Compliance Course

ARCH5422 Advanced Building Systems I: Design Documentation

Target Students MArch 1

Course Term 1

Course Type Required

Teacher(s) GOUDSMIT, Inge; ADNERSON, Brian; NI, Ruoning

The course focusses on the translation from a design proposal to a drawn documentation for construction, in the form of a comprehensive drawing set. Emphasis will be placed on the development of precise communicative methodologies in the resolution of architectural form and space, as well as compliance to building regulations. Case studies, analytical exercises and representational investigation will establish an understanding of concepts engaged in the translation from drawing to building.

The students are expected to have prior experience in producing architectural drawings, such as plans, elevations and sections. They should also have a basic knowledge of AutoCAD. It is acknowledged, however, that the level of aptitude varies among students, as they have different Undergraduate and professional experiences.

The Technical Compliance Course supplements all other M-Arch courses with developing strong skills and a good understanding of how to develop a conceptual design into a schematic design.
