Advanced Building Systems II – Design Documentation Part 2: BIM Model Written Specification Material Palette

Target Students MArch 1

Course Term 2

Course Type Required

Teacher(s) COMER, Fergus

This course will focus on 15 typical building systems, grouped into structure, skin, services, scenery and setting, before considering how these systems fit and integrate within an architectural envelope and around an architectural interior, and the tools and documentation required to design and communicate this.

Each system requires a particular skillset to plan, design, construct and install, and requires a different approach depending on the climatic conditions, including variations in temperature, rainfall, the prevailing wind conditions and expected snowfall. This course will introduce the professional consultants responsible for developing and delivering these systems, how each building system is installed by separate, manual building ‘trades’, and the architect’s responsibility when appointed as a lead consultant to oversee this process.
