Terra Centre, built by the One University One Village (1U1V) team led by Prof. Edward Ng, has received “Special Citation on UN Sustainable Development Goals” (New Buildings Category: Completed Projects – Institutional) at the Green Building Award 2021.

Leveraging on the theoretical basis of “High Science, Low Technology”, 1U1V team has utilised local materials, local techniques and local labour to build the Centre, which is located on the campus of Kunming University of Science and Technology. It acts not only as a site for training artisans but also provides space for research and experiments, while displaying the techniques and accomplishments of the seismic earth construction. The Centre is more than a building project – it serves as a platform for employing and educating the local community, thus generating a ripple effect on the country and in addressing the poverty issue.

The Green Building Award is co-organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) and the Professional Green Building Council (PGBC). It aims to recognise building-related projects and organisations which go beyond the conventional practice, stretch their boundaries in advancing sustainability, and accelerate Hong Kong’s development into a more liveable city.
