This project, led by Professor Thomas Chung, explores the integrated regeneration of Shui Hau village in South Lantau by conserving the 400-year-old coastal village's valuable built and intangible heritages. Strategic architectural restorations will provide key venues for villager-driven initiatives to kick-start sustainable conservation of Shui Hau’s unique eco-cultural landscape.
Through local engagement and capacity-building, the research team will record Shu Hau’s disappearing traditions in the hope of consolidating the local community while enhancing public outreach. Adopting a “point-line-plane-place” approach, the project aims to regenerate a place by restoring its architecture and reconnecting its people.
