More than 60 BSSc (AS) Year 2 students travelled to Guangzhou and Kaiping for a four-day study trip that explored traditional and vernacular architecture in Guangdong Province.


Led by professors Gu Daqing, Florence Chan, Han Man and Maggie Ma, the study trip comprised joint studio reviews with the School of Architecture at South China University of Technology (SCUT), lectures by CUHK and SCUT professors, and field research at architectural sites including Xiguan Old Town, Yuyin Garden, Kaiping Diaolou and Liyuan Garden.


The study trip was organised as part of the course requirement for Graphics and Visual Studies (ARCH2111), Architecture Fundamentals (ARCH2320) and Introduction to Architectural Design I (ARCH2221). It was sponsored by the Ministry of Education (MOE) Ten Thousand Student Interflow Programme and SCUT.
