Over the past three decades, a huge change has occurred in Mainland China, turning the country into a world power in the 21st century. This speedy transformation has brought to society many opportunities and contradictions at the same time, no doubt also confronting individuals with dilemmas. This lecture uses the speaker’s own cases to depict a social ideal: change is not limited to scale, economy and appearance; it addresses a broader scope. Human ambition, effectiveness, behavioural pattern, and even mindset could also be the targets of change. Such changes may not be easy, yet are worth exploring and testing out.

Zhu Jingxiangis Associate Professor of the School of Architecture. His research focuses on new spatial structures, lightweight building systems and sustainable building technologies. He has completed dozens of built projects in Mainland China and Kenya, and has won the China Innovator of the Year Award in Architecture from The Wall Street Journal in 2012, First Prize of Local Academia in the Hong Kong Construction Industry Council Innovation Award 2015, Technique Exploration Award and Youth Explorer Finalist Award in the 4th China Architecture Media Awards 2016. Prof. Zhu also designed Dou Pavilion, China’s national pavilion, at the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale 2016.
