Date 28.9.2022

Location Hong Kong

CUHK alumni Matthew Leung King Chi(MArch 2022) and Zoe So Wing Yi (MArch 2022) have been awarded Second Place and Third Place respectively at the Discovery Bay Multi-recreation Centre Architectural Design Competition.

With his proposal “Sustainable Design for Recreation Centre in Suburb”, Matthew designs a building with an organic profile that echoes the terrain of the surrounding landscape and outdoor activities. A complete cycle of generating sustainable energy is developed as well. Seasonal ingredients are available in greenhouse and terrace farms, while food waste is turned into renewable energy.

For Zoe, her vision of “Folding Landscapes” is to create a new sustainable and inclusive recreational destination in Hong Kong. With an overall form inspired by the site landscape, the proposal provides unique sports venues, educational green facilities and human-scale open space for visitors of different age groups.

The Competition is organised by the Hong Kong Resort Company Limited, with an emphasis on supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and nurturing young talents.
