One of our talented MArch students, Ekin Yau, has won the 2024 Architecture MasterPrize™ (AMP) for his project, D-Archive-22. This project explores a self-sustaining museum model that bridges the gap between public and private art sectors.
As Hong Kong continues to solidify its status as a global art city, particularly following the influential Art Basel, our student's work critically examines the role of museums in this vibrant ecosystem. His project highlights how traditional museums can transform into dynamic spaces of public engagement, and prompts society to consider the evolving purpose of museums: could museums be reimagined as more than just repositories of art, serving a broader and more interactive role within the community? Through five key aspects — materiality, spatial design, programming, contextual integration, and cultural engagement—his project proposes a new typology for museums in Hong Kong.
The Architecture MasterPrize was assembled by the Farmani Group as the sister initiative of the IDA International Design Awards, that has been recognizing and celebrating smart and sustainable multidisciplinary design since 2007. The AMP honors creativity and innovation in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design, with submissions evaluated by a distinguished jury across 42 categories. Our student was awarded the “Best of Best” in the Student Architectural Design Award for his thought-provoking approach to institutional architecture.
We congratulate Ekin Yau on his innovative project and this exciting award news!
