Our architecture alumni, Alvin Kung (MArch 2010) and Zachary Wong (MArch 2011), along with their team, have won Third Place in the FuturArc Prize 2023 for their project "A Scaffolding System Adapted for Double Aging."

Their proposal introduces a Transitional Wooden Scaffolding system, representing a sustainable and cross-generational solution to address Hong Kong's dual challenges of an aging population and aging buildings. This innovative system empowers residents of all ages to participate in urban regeneration, opening up new spatial and programmatic possibilities that benefit the community and the environment. By retrofitting existing structures, this strategic prototype extends the lifespan of buildings, minimizes waste generation, and facilitates a collaborative process in urban redevelopment that prioritizes the needs of the neighborhood. This recyclable modular system sets forth a vision for sustainable regeneration, capable of generating positive social, economic, and environmental impacts on the city and its inhabitants.

The FuturArc Prize, launched in 2008, stands as Asia's pioneering international Green Building design competition. Its primary objective is to stimulate ongoing change and creativity in the field of building design, showcasing innovative ideas and solutions that pave the way for a sustainable future.
