CUHK architecture alumnus Alvin Kung (BSSc 2006, MArch 2010) has won the HKIA Young Architect Award 2018 with his design proposal “Rediscovering Our Harbour”.

Responding to the theme of “Waterfront Recreation Centre”, Alvin has proposed four urban interventions that offer different perspectives for the public to experience, appreciate and rediscover the Victoria Harbour around four ferry piers. Designed with a minimal architectural expression, “Rediscovering Our Harbour” has a vision to connect people, activate transport hubs and urban space, and perpetuate Hong Kong’s invaluable harbour culture.

Our recent architecture graduate Wendy Tang (BSSc 2016, MArch 2019) also received the HKIA Student Medal 2018-19 on the same occasion.

Organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the annual HKIA Young Architect Award aims to recognise the talents and contributions of emerging architects in Hong Kong. Our alumni Sarah Mui (BSSc 2006) and Gary Ng (BSSc 2006, MArch 2009) were also the Award recipients in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
