CUHK alumnus Owen Lam Ho Wang (MArch 2018) and his teammate have won First Prize at the 57th Central Glass International Architectural Design Competition.

In Japan, economic growth has accelerated a large-scale outflow of people from rural communities to cities. With their proposal “The Kintsugi of the Flawed City”, the design team came up with a new system that aims at repairing the discrepancy between rural communities and urban cities while breaking the barriers between their residents. By building buffer zones and filling the cracks of the cities with rural communities, those living in the cities may enjoy a slow-paced lifestyle, natural environment and supply of fresh agricultural products.

The Competition is judged by a panel that includes the renowned architect Kengo Kuma this year. Established in 1966, the competition offers a platform for professionals and students to exchange ideas on balancing economic efficiency and conservation of the natural environment as well as traditional culture.
