CUHK architecture graduate Robert Tang (BSSc 2020) has been selected as a finalist at the INSPIRELI AWARDS 2020 – one of the biggest global student competitions in architecture, urban design and interior design, with over 1000 project entries this year – for his U6 project “Power House”.

Supervised by Prof. Sebastian Law, the project steers away from the conventional sports center layout and aims at calling back to the historical identity of the industrial area. Inspired by the adjacent old quarry of A Kung Ngam and industrial facilities, the separate massings are connected by exposed tubes serving as vertical and horizontal circulations – a key design feature reminiscent of conveyor belts in mining facilities.

“Power House” has previously received Exceptional Honor at TEAM20’s 8th Annual Architecture and Urban Planning Graduation Projects Competition – Architecture Design Category. This annual competition, with a focus on graduation projects, serves as a platform for dialogue, exchange and sharing of views and experiences among young architecture students.
