The “Hou2 Living Gallery@ City One Shatin – Participatory Estate Improvement Programme for an Age-friendly Living Environment”, led by Prof. Mo Kar Him and his team at Happy Ageing Lab, has won the “Innovation of the Year” prize in the category "Active Ageing Community Programme" in the 12th Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards in the World Ageing Festival 2024.

The award-winning project aims to create an age-friendly living environment and promote healthy ageing within private housing estates. Through a participatory approach, the project engages stakeholders and residents of City One to co-create retrofitting ideas and improve the overall well-being of older adults. The programme involves stakeholder engagement, place audits, co-design workshops, prototyping, and evaluation. By raising awareness of age-friendly design and fostering intergenerational living, the project serves as a pilot for other large-scale housing estates facing demographic shifts and ageing buildings. With the active involvement of volunteers, including older adults, the project empowers the community to advocate for age-friendly living and creates practical interventions for an inclusive environment.

The 12th Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards, which took place at Marina Bay Sands on 9 May 2024, was an event established in 2013 and dedicated to recognising innovation and excellence in eldercare. It serves as a tribute to organisations that redefine the ageing experience through their innovative business practices, operational strategies, and service models. The awards featured ten categories, each highlighting excellence in various aspects of eldercare.
