CUHK architecture graduate Beryl Wong (MArch 2019) and current student Freddie Zhang (MArch Year 2) have won the Second Prize at the TEAMZERO Award – International Architecture Student Design Competition 2019, for their project “The Poetics of Home: A Research on Hakka Culture and Daily Life”. Supervised by Prof. Peter Ferretto, the award-winning design uses a new method of earth construction that allows changeability and flexibility of space, in order to magnify the minutia of everyday life in a rural domestic setting.

TEAMZERO Award is an annual competition organised by The Architect Magazine and TEAMZERO Architecture and Planning Co. Ltd. This year, with the theme of ‘‘An Ideal Home for your Family in a Decaying Village’’, the competition invites architecture students worldwide to submit housing proposals for a dilapidated village as a home for senior citizens, addressing issues of elderly care and rural development in China.
