CUHK architecture graduate Wendy Tang (MArch 2019) and student Jessie Wong (MArch Year 2) have received Excellence in the Student Category for Architecture at this year’s A&D Trophy Awards, for their studio projects “Hong Kong Archive 2037 – A Paradoxical Wall” and “Hong Kong Archive 2047 – Hawker Practices of Everyday Life” respectively. While Wendy’s design explores the paradoxical meaning of a wall – when it no longer represents exclusion and isolation, but expresses a sense of welcoming – in unfolding a historical journey into disappeared territories, Jessie proposes an alternative for preserving the tong lau communities and hawker culture in the Five Streets area in To Kwa Wan. Both winning projects were supervised by Prof. Patrick Hwang.

The A&D Trophy Awards were established by Perspective Global in 2004 to celebrate excellence in architecture, interior design and product design across Asia-Pacific and beyond.
