CUHK architecture student Julio Lai Ho Yin (MArch Year 2) and alumnus Solomon Cheung (MArch 2019) have received Third Prize at the Young Architects Competitions for their project, “To the New World”.

In order to honour the history of one of the most prominent shipyards in the world, the project proposes a mobile nautical museum as a stacked stage with different sections of narratives. Combining double height volume, digital technologies, sliding TV panels, physical models, drawings and photos, the museum attempts to create an immersive experience for visitors. Organised by the Young Architects Competition, designers are invited to build an itinerant naval museum which tells the stories of legendary ships, storms and adventures related to the boat. The Competition encourages design-related research with support from architectural firms such as Snøhetta, UN Studio, Foster + Partners, Sou Fujimoto Architects etc.
