The School of Architecture will hold a 2-day PhD Admission Workshop from August 19 to 20, 2024, for prospective applicants.

The workshop will provide an introduction to the School's current research areas and the types of scholarship available. It will offer participants a valuable opportunity to meet with faculty members, attend coaching sessions on proposal writing and interviews, as well as to hear insights from alumni and current students.


This workshop is designed for potential applicants for the 2025-2026 intake. Selection criteria will be based on the quality and potential of the proposed PhD research. To participate, applicants are required to submit a research abstract (300-500 words), transcripts, CV, and a recommendation letter, preferably from an academic referee. Selected participants will be offered free accommodation, meals, and a travel allowance.

Scholarships for Prospective Students


Hong Kong PhD Fellowships Scheme (HKPFS)

Annual stipend of HK$331,200 (rate as of 2023-24) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$13,800 (rate as of 2023-24) per year for each awardee for a period up to three years

  • Selected candidates with outstanding qualities of academic performance, research ability / potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities

CUHK Vice-Chancellor’s PhD Scholarship Scheme

Award of total HK$80,000 and studentships of HK$220,320 per annum (rate as of 2023-24) within the normative study period

  • Selected candidates with outstanding academic performance (obtained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0 or equivalent) and a PhD admission offer from a top-tier university

CSS PhD Fellowship Scheme@CUHK

Dual academic identity and annual stipend equal to the amount of a regular PGS at CUHK, i.e. annual stipend of HK$ 220,320 (rate as of 2023-24), lasting for four years of full time study

  • Selected candidates with research ability and/or potential for innovation in CSS, background preferably in both social science and computational science, and inter/multi/cross-disciplinary orientation

Postgraduate Scholarships (PGS)

Annual studentship of HK$220,320 (rate as of 2023-24) within the normative study period

  • Full-time research postgraduate students
