The BSSc (AS)programme should be like a path through a field; it should reveal it, not cover it. Students should find their own path that balances learning, discourse, discovery and synthesis.

Introduction

At CUHK, we believe everyone has the potential to explore and create positive change. Our School of Architecture is where you can develop your design skills, unlock your creativity and shape the future of the built environment. Are you ready to transform your ideas into reality? Join us and start your journey today.

The four-year Bachelor of Social Science degree in Architectural Studies provides learning experiences that help students unlock their creative and professional potential. With an emphasis on sustainability, craft and the rapidly changing urban environment, the programme offers an exciting platform for students to chart an individual path as an architectural education.

Why Study Architecture at CUHK?

To envision a more sustainable future, students will tackle problems that are multiple scale, multi-disciplinary and global in outlook. Our School of Architecture is a programme that is rooted within the Faculty of Social Sciences. Progressing through the programme, students work on projects that directly benefit local neighbourhoods, creating spaces that foster connections and interactions among community members. Students learn to incorporate cultural and physical contexts into their designs, ensuring that new structures respect and enhance local heritage and environment. And ultimately, the curriculum prepares students for leadership roles in the architectural field, equipping them with the skills needed to shape the built environment in innovative and impactful ways.

What We Do in the Programme?

Design is the central and defining subject of a school of architecture. Design Studio provides learning experiences where students are given the opportunity to think critically and innovatively. Supported by courses in humanities, technology and professional practice, students undertake their learning through a series of design explorations that allow the study of architecture at different levels of complexity and articulation. These hand-on experiences allow students to develop the design, technical, visual and digital skills necessary to engage in a rich process that can directly benefit local and global communities.
