PhD student Garvin Goepel has been awarded the Best Presentation Award at the World CAAD PhD Workshop with his research, “Augmented Architecture: On practical challenges and the implementation of Augmented Reality (AR) 3D-holographic instruction on assembly and fabrication in an architectural context for the ‘best practice guidance’ of AR – manuals”.

As we enter a new digital revolution where the reality increasingly merges with the digital world, augmented reality (AR) becomes ubiquitous. The project aims to identify and expand on the spatial design opportunities and construction-related impact as the augmented- and mixed-reality technology is integrated into architectural design and implementation.

The World CAAD PhD Workshop is an academic event organised by five international sibling Computer-Aided Architectural Design (CAAD) organisations (ACADIA, ASCAAD, CAADRIA, eCAADe and SIGraDi), providing a platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing which serves the global CAAD community.
