Two projects by CUHK faculty have been awarded the prestigious World Architecture Festival (WAF) 2016 Awards in Berlin.

Nicknamed «The Architectural Oscars», WAF is a world-leading architecture event where keynote talks from the industry’s most influential figures, such as Sir Peter Cook, Ben van Berkel, Wolf Prix and Patrik Schumacher, sit alongside live project jury presentations. During these presentations, an international judging panel of 100 professionals and academics identifies the winning projects in several categories. This year 411 projects were shortlisted.

Prof. Thomas Chung’s project 'Floating Fields' (Shenzhen, China) beat six finalists and became category winner in the ‘Production Energy And Recycling – Completed Buildings’category. Sir David Chipperfield presented Prof. Chung with his award on the centre stage during the category winner presentations that took place on the third day of the festival.

Prof. Kristof Crolla presented the 'ZCB Bamboo Pavilion' (Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong), co-authored with Prof. Adam Fingrut, to category judges Kai-Uwe Berghman (Partner, BIG Bjarke Ingels Group), Nabil Gholam (Founder, Nabil Gholam Architects), and Rob Gregory (Architect, Purcell), competing for nine other finalists for ‘Small Project of the Year 2016’. He received the award during the celebratory Gala Dinner at the Berlin Postbahnhof together with other overall winners.
